Sacramento's 17th Annual MLK Celebration
Commemorate the Anniversary of Black-Americans’ Right to Vote!
Date: Thursday, August 6, 2015 Location: Capitol Steps Time: TBA (Evening) On August 6, 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed into law what is known as The Voting Rights Act of 1965. Many people, of all racial backgrounds, died in the fight for this right; a civil right that white people had for almost 200 years before black people could insure their equal right to fair and impartial access to vote. And yet today, many people assume that there is no longer a need for this insurance, but sadly, there is. We must support one another’s civil rights. |
